FAQs

I have a factory floor, there is little chemical spillage but I do use pallet trucks.  What will do the job and be the most economical product for me to use?

We recommend Strongcoat. It is two part, solvent-free, high build epoxy which is most commonly specified in factory and warehouse environments. It will withstand medium to heavy duty traffic such as pallet trucks and forklifts. It also offers general chemical resistance to a wide range of oils and chemicals (see our Chemical Resistance Chart for further details).

I have an industrial unit and I want to paint its floor. There is no chemical spillage and there is only foot traffic.  What will do the job and be the most economical product for me to use ?

Flowcoat. Our two-part, water-based epoxy, which offers hygienic, non-dusting finish, and is easy to maintain. Flowcoat coverage rates also make it an economical solution for industrial units where no heavy duty traffic is present.

How safe is Epoxy Resin to use?

While most resin is generally safe to use when applied correctly, in order to avoid possible skin irritation, we always recommend that you use personal protection gear and follow strict Application Guidelines, as well as adhere to recommended Health and Safety advice. For more information and advice, please consult Technical Product Data sheets.

I want a smooth, glossy resin floor finish, but I’m worried that it may be slippery underfoot?

All our products are industrial grade and designed for industrial and commercial environments and offer good slip resistance. However, if they are to be installed in wet environments or where there are chemicals or lubricants being spilled on the floor, you may want to consider and anti-slip finish.

If you require anti-slip finish, it can be achieved by adding various grades of our Flowgrip anti-slip aggregate to the first coat of wet resin. Please be aware that the addition of anti-slip aggregate will result in textured finish which requires more attention when cleaning. Please further consult Technical Data sheets regarding installation of anti-slip finish.

If you need to meet a specific slip-resistance, please contact our Technical Department for further advice and product specification.

How much resin do I need?

When purchasing any epoxy resin, we always recommend purchasing a little extra to account for possible surface variations (if your floor is uneven, bumpy or old concrete) and wastage.

How should I apply epoxy resin?

We recommend that you use specially made epoxy resin roller for application, in order to avoid regular roller fibres sticking to your epoxy floor surface.  For further application instructions, please refer to Technical Product Data Sheets.

How do I clean my resin floor?

Please refer to the 'Floor Cleaning & Maintenance Guide' for the advice on the suitable cleaning methods for varying resin floor systems.

I have noticed that on your product Technical Datasheets that each product is given a FeRFA classification. What does this mean?

FeRFA is the official Resin Flooring Association which represents the major product manufacturers, specialist contractors, raw material suppliers and specialist service providers within the UK Resin Flooring, Screeding and Surface Preparation industry sectors.

All resin products are classified by FeRFA from 1 to 8. The higher the classification number, the more durable the system. Please find below the classification table:

Are your products industrial grade ?

All of our products are industrial grade and manufactured in the UK in accordance with British Standard 8204 Part 6.

Do I need a primer?

If your concrete is relatively newly laid you may require a DPM primer to protect your resin floor from the moisture released as your concrete dries out. If unregulated, this can cause your resin coatings to pop and burst from the pressure of the escaping moisture.

Whether you need a DPM, and how many coats, is dictated by the moisture content (measured in 'relative humidity') of your concrete. Please see below for guidance on when a DPM should be used:

Reading in the 60's: No dpm primer required
Reading of 70 - 80%: One coat of dpm primer required.
Reading of 80 - 85%: Two coats of dpm primer required.
Reading of 85% +: it is not recommended to lay over this level of rh.

A primer such as Flowprime SF might be required to seal the concrete pores and improve adhesion if the concrete is quite porous.

If there are any oil spillages on the floor that the mechanical floor preparation fails to remove, you may require Flowprime Oil Tolerant Primer to patch-prime.

ALL epoxy and polyurethane screeds will require 2 coats of epoxy or polyurethane primers.

I’m in a rush to finish my project, what are my options?

If your newly laid concrete floor is taking too long to dry and you cannot/do not wish to wait for it to cure completely, we advise that you use our DPM Primer before applying Epoxy Resin. DPM Primer allows the resin stick properly, enabling you to finish your floor on time even when it is not fully dry*

*Please note that different moisture counts require different number of primer coats.  If moisture content is greater than 85%, DPM Primer is not recommended.

Alternatively, you can purchase resin from our Fast Cure range, which is able to speed up the floor's rate of cure, making it an excellent choice for: refurbishment projects, shop-fit-outs or even fast-paced new build developments and allows for newly laid resin flooring systems to be fully serviceable in times as fast as two hours.

My epoxy resin is taking too long to cure. How can I speed it up?

The only way to speed the cure of our epoxy resin products once they've been applied, is to heat the room or the area that your project is in.

Why has my white epoxy coated floor turned yellowish?

Over time, ultra violet (UV) light causes unprotected epoxy to turn a yellow colour and degrade. To avoid this, the epoxied surface should be coated with either paint or varnish. As well as protecting the surface, the varnish can also improve the look of the surface.

Can you get a UV stable epoxy?

Some of our epoxy resins contain a UV inhibitor which protects and helps to slow down the effects of UV damage. If you are concerned about UV degradation, we recommend that you protect the epoxy from UV with specially recommended varnish or paint.

How soon can I expect to receive my order?

All of our products are made to order, which means that it can take up to 3-4  working days to reach you after placing your order with us. All of our products are posted via Next Day Delivery.
