Ink Resistant Flooring for a Label Printing Factory in Cardiff

Virtus Resins products were recently chosen by an approved industrial resin flooring contractor for floor refurbishment works in a label printing factory based in Cardiff.

The label factory is a digital and flexographic printing specialist based in Cardiff. They print labels for lots of different sectors including those for food and drink and chemical brands.

Their plan has been to expand and increase their floor space so they can reposition some of their machines and allow more working room, creating a better workflow around the factory.

Job Overview

The works area consisted of approximately 372m² factory flooring which required localised repairs and chemically resistant floor coating which could withstand printer ink stains, as well as the weight of the heavy machinery.

Specification

Virtus Resins specified a multi-layer system consisting of: 2 coats of Strongcoat - 2 part high build epoxy paint. Strongcoat offers high durability for factory environments where the floor is subject to heavy duty equipment, forklift and pallet truck traffic.

It was then sealed with a single coat of Chemdur – 2 part polyurethane sealer, for enhanced chemical and abrasion resistance. Chemdur is highly resistant to the inks which are most commonly encountered in printing factories, and offers easy to maintain gloss or silk finish.

The colour chosen by the Client was Chelsea Blue, throughout.

Sequence of Works

The floor area was thoroughly prepared by means of grinding and vacuum enclosed shot-blasting, closely followed by the application of 2 coats of Strongcoat high build epoxy in smooth gloss finish. It was then over coated with Chemdur polyurethane sealer in Chelsea Blue.

The Client was delighted with the new flooring, commenting:

“Exceptional looking floor really chuffed”.

The whole project took 4 days to complete.
